Civil” or “Set UTC” button, depending on which form you entered the date and
time.
IMPORTANT: After setting the mount type, observing location, date and time, it
is best to turn o! your Gemini and then back on again while the mount is in its
standard startup position (counterweight shaft down and OTA pointing to the
celestial pole).
Using the Hand Controller
The graphical hand controller uses a combination of touch screen and physical buttons
to allow you to control your Gemini system. Depending on the startup mode selected
through the web interface, you may be prompted to select a mode when you first
power on your Gemini (Quick Start, Cold Start, Warm Start, or Warm Restart). Please
refer to the Gemini Level 4 user manual for a full explanation of the last three startup
modes.
The main HC screen contains four directional buttons along with three function but-
tons. The four directional buttons move the mount in RA and Dec at the speed indi-
cated just above the “SPEED” function button. Moving speeds are Guide, Center, Move,
and Slew. There are also four directional buttons on the back of the hand controller.
These perform the same function as the four graphical buttons. The language and
color setting can be stored permanently by “Store Setting” in the Menu Screen.
SPEED Function Button
You can use the SPEED function button to cycle through the di!erent moving speeds,
allowing you to set the speed at which the mount will move when a direction button is
pressed. The actual rate for each of these moving speeds (expressed as a multiple of
the sidereal rate) can be set from the web interface or the hand controller menu. You
can move only one axis at a time using the graphical direction buttons on the
touchscreen, but you can move both axes simultaneously using the physical buttons
on the back of the controller.
MENU Function Button
This button allows you to access some of the observing and setup functions of the
controller. These will not be exhaustively documented during the beta phase since
they are likely to change in upcoming releases.
